Our strategic partnership with Korean expertise is transforming heavy industrial capabilities in Tanzania.
A Partnership Built on Complementary Strengths
The DMG Heavy Industries joint venture brings together DMG's deep understanding of East African markets, regulatory environments, and operational conditions with our Korean partner's world-leading shipbuilding technology and quality management systems. The result is a capability that neither party could replicate alone — one that is raising the standard for vessel construction across the region.
- Access to Korean naval architecture and engineering expertise
- Technology transfer to Tanzanian workforce and management
- Classification-society-standard construction processes
- Joint procurement of materials and components at scale
Technology Transfer in Practice
Real technology transfer goes beyond sending documents across borders. DMG Heavy Industries has embedded Korean engineers within our Tanzanian operations, running intensive on-the-job training programmes that build lasting capability. Tanzanian supervisors and quality inspectors have been trained to the same standards as their Korean counterparts — a transformation that will outlast the joint venture itself.
The Road Ahead
With the first vessels delivered under the joint venture and several more under construction, DMG Heavy Industries is proving its capability to regional buyers. We are actively pursuing contracts with national ferry operators, port authorities, and private commercial operators across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and beyond. The ambition is to make Tanzania a recognised centre of shipbuilding excellence for the African continent.
